This is the second blog on my book signing of “Too Soon For Sunset.”
After the success of “Superstition Murder Club”, I wrote five more plots to continue the series. I had discovered a niche audience: women over 55 who love to read a cozy mystery in bed, at the pool, or on the beach. I publish the novels in large print, so they are easy to read—and funny, they must be funny, even if people die in them. I want Readers to know that women of a certain age should never be ignored; that they are witty, smart, sexy, and tenacious—even at age 90.
After the first book was published, I immediately started writing “Too Soon for Sunset”. I knew where this story was going and how it was going to end – at least I thought I did. I had an outline and the sketch of my murderer. But sometimes “life” gets in the way of our plans.
My 93-year-old mother was hospitalized and I had to put the book aside. When she recovered to nearly full health, I returned to my writing, but I wasn’t able to get back to the murder mystery. Instead, I completed two other book projects and published them. These were non-fiction: “Perilous Journey: Memoir of a Bible Smuggler,” a true account of when I smuggled 5000 Bibles behind the Iron Curtain in 1978, and “Remember Her For This: A Study on the Women in the Gospels,” a Silver Illumination Book Award for “Best Bible Study”. Both of these books are available for sale on Amazon.
Last year I returned to Superstition Murder Club’s sequel, “Too Soon for Sunset,” and promised myself I would finish it by the end of the year – which I did! If you know me pretty well, you might wonder where I find the time to write? I guess I have to say, whenever I have a spare moment, which means Saturdays, evenings after 10, or a couple hours in the morning. Sometimes, I can write for 8 hours straight. I love the thrill of being in the creative flow, but it takes its toll physically, so I try to maintain my writing routines.
I write every day. I have several books in the hopper: four Christian fiction novels at different stages in the writing and publishing process: “The Living Stones” and “When Gods Collide” should probably be out this year. “The Other Mary” and the third in the Superstition Murder Club Mystery series, “Under a Shroud of Care” will be out in 2021.
I cannot thank my friends enough for helping me arrange my book signing. They are Linda, Carol, Carolyn and Joyce. Girlfriends are the glue to the successful launch of my books; and of course, I want to thank all the people who came out to buy my book(s) and spent time talking to me.
Next week I will share more about my book signing.
