I am so proud of the young people of Planet Earth who are standing up for their planetary home. Climate change is not a liberal or conservative issue — it is a human issue. It is also a Christian issue because as children of God we are stewards of the land.
Anyone who refuses to believe that our climate is changing because of human mismanagement must have their head in the sand. That sand is quickly eroding and soon such ignorance will be exposed.
Our children demand us to wake up and take action!
For too long, we, parents, leaders, and earth citizens, have exploited the land and the seas for quick riches, without taking into consideration that we can’t keep trashing the earth without repercussions–as if we had no responsibility to cherish and nurture this incomparable gift from God.
You don’t have to go far to notice the effect of humans on the environment. When I go for a walk I always find litter, cast off garbage dropped by some human. We act surprised to learn that Roundup causes cancer even though it is a toxic poison and we spray 1.4 billion pounds of it each year!
We will answer for our stewardship.
FROM GENESIS 1 (THE MESSAGE)
God spoke: “Land, appear!”
And there it was.
God named the land Earth.
He named the pooled water Ocean.
God saw that it was good.
11-13 God spoke: “Earth, green up! Grow all varieties
of seed-bearing plants, Every sort of fruit-bearing tree.”
And there it was.
Earth produced green seed-bearing plants,
all varieties,
And fruit-bearing trees of all sorts.
God saw that it was good
20-23 God spoke: “Swarm, Ocean, with fish and all sea life!
Birds, fly through the sky over Earth!”
God created the huge whales,
all the swarm of life in the waters,
And every kind and species of flying birds.
God saw that it was good.
God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Ocean!
Birds, reproduce on Earth!”
24-25 God spoke: “Earth, generate life! Every sort and kind:
cattle and reptiles and wild animals—all kinds.”
And there it was:
wild animals of every kind,
Cattle of all kinds, every sort of reptile and bug.
God saw that it was good.
26-28 God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
